Rasy (a fake name) is an 11-year-old boy studying in grade 4 and living with his parents and two siblings in Prek Norin commune. However, life has never been easy for his family. His father works as a construction worker, but the work is unstable, and there are months when he doesn’t earn enough to provide for the family. His mother stays at home to care for the children. Because of financial struggles, Rasy’s parents never prioritized education. They simply didn’t see it as a possibility when basic survival was already a challenge.

But that changed when CFI stepped in three years ago. Rasy had been missing classes, so CFI provided counseling to him and his parents to make sure he didn’t fall behind. We supplied him with school materials like books, a uniform, and a backpack—things his family couldn’t afford. The education advocacy team also actively monitored his school attendance, regularly visited his home, and worked with his parents to help them see the value of education and the opportunity that creates for Rasy to have a better future.

CFI also collaborated with Rasy’s teachers to ensure he received the right academic support. We helped his teachers find ways to provide proper guidance and individualized attention so that he can stay motivated and catch up to his peers.

As a result, Rasy has made remarkable progress. He now attends school regularly and takes his studies seriously. His parents have become more involved, checking on his schoolwork and encouraging him to do his best. They now believe in the power of education to change their family’s future.

Rasy himself is grateful for the support, saying, “I’m so happy that CFI is helping me. I will keep going to school every day and study hard because I want to finish high school,” with determination.

His mother shared how our work made a difference by saying, “without CFI, my children might have never gone to school or would have dropped out early. The CFI staff helped me understand how important education is and now I want my son to have a better life through learning.”

Thanks to BASIAD’s support, Rasy now has a chance at a brighter future. With education as his foundation, he dreams of one day helping his family and building a life full of possibilities.
