Education is important in our life. That’s why the CFI Education Advocacy team is trying their best to work together with children who want to stop school at a very young age. Usually, when the student wants to stop school, our team goes to follow up with them at their house to understand the reason they want to stop and discuss how important education is for their future. We also work with their parents to support the kids and to encourage them to get back to school.
Often the problem relates to the family’s economic situation and the kids are encouraged to stop the study, to help the family to earn some income. So, we complete an assessment with the family and see if there is anything we could do to help to ensure the kids can still go to school. We encourage the children to continue their study at least to pass grade nine and then continue on at vocational school to help prepare them with skills for their future.
Recently, we worked with Sophia who stopped school in grade 6, because of the family’s employment situation meaning they moved around alot. CFI’s Social Work and Education Advocacy team worked in partnership with the family and worked with Sophia to encourage her to continue to study. And after we visited her several times Sophia agreed “Yes” she will continue her studies when the schools re-open again.
A huge thank you to everyone who involved with this amazing work and we can’t wait to see Sophia in her school uniform again!
