In advance of the Khmer New Year break, Children’s Future celebrated The Outstanding Student Award Ceremony. At these ceremonies, which happen twice a year, students are awarded for their achievements in school. Of the 161 students taking after-school classes at the learning center, 27 students were recognized for perfect attendance meaning 60 students received recognition for their outstanding exam scores.

At the ceremony, students performed in front of parents, peers, and staff; reading Khmer, singing in English and Khmer, and Khmer traditional dancing, were among the main activities.

Celebrating successes fosters fun and a sense of unity

While fun is at the core of the Student Award Ceremonies, these events are important to Children’s Future’s mission of improving access to education for children in rural Cambodia.   Students feel motivated to continue studying when their efforts to learn and attend school are rewarded, and families can see the direct benefits of education through the important skills that students showcase. Seeing their children’s success helps families to view education positively, and encourage their kids to continue attending school.

At the end of the event, there was time for everyone, especially for staff and students to have fun together, dancing and playing traditional New year games. All said and done, it was a very Happy Khmer New year for the Children’s Future family!
